Allendale, Mich. – The University of Toledo women's track & field team landed in second place at the Grand Valley State Open with 120.5 points. The Rockets' second-place finish was 11.5 points behind meet-winner GVSU and the day was highlighted by senior
Nautica Hill setting a personal record in the 60m dash. UT took 12 top-three finishes on the day.
"Today was a pretty good day all around," said head coach
Linh Nguyen. "We had a lot of personal bests and MAC qualifying marks. I think the more time we have together after coming back from break, the better we're getting. Again, it was good to see the mentality go up a notch. With only two more weekends of competition before the MAC championship, we're starting to get a clearer picture of where we stand and what we need to do."Â
In the weight throw senior
Katie Dewey clinched second with a throw of 17.52m. In the long jump senior
Yana Khabina took second (5.50m) while sophomore
Janell Rowe took fifth (5.38m). Freshman
Julia Smith and junior
Atalia da Silva tied for third in the high jump (1.58m).Â
Â
On the track, the Rockets took the top two spots in the 60-meter dash and the mile. Hill hit a personal record in the 60m event with a time of 7.72, clinching first. Senior
Christina Johnson took second with a time of 8.03, and Hill also took second in the 400-meter event (57.64) Junior
Athena Welsh clinched first in the mile (4:43.54), and senior
Janelle Noe followed closely behind to take second (4:43.59). SeniorÂ
