Toledo Plays at MAC East Division Foe Akron on Saturday

Akron, Ohio - Toledo (12-5, 4-2 MAC) will look to keep pace in the Mid-American Conference West Division on Saturday, Jan. 25 when it travels to Akron (11-6, 2-4 MAC). Tip-off is scheduled for 2:00 p.m. in James A. Rhodes Arena and will be shown on ESPN+.
The Rockets are currently deadlocked with Central Michigan (13-5, 4-2 MAC) for the top spot in the MAC West Division standings, one game ahead of third-place Northern Illinois (11-6, 3-3 MAC) and Eastern Michigan (10-7, 3-3 MAC).
The Midnight Blue & Gold enters tomorrow's cross-division action riding a three-game win streak following Wednesday's heart-pounding 62-59 home triumph against defending MAC champion Chippewas.
CMU led by as many as 10 points in the first half, but UT outscored the visitors, 21-10, in the pivotal third quarter, and then staved off a late rally to snap a three-game losing skid in the series. Central Michigan  missed three shots in the final 12 seconds, including a desperation heave that would have tied the division showdown.
Senior Kaayla McIntyre led three Rockets in double figures with 16 points, followed closely by sophomore Nakiah Black with 15 points and senior Mikaela Boyd had 13 points and a season-high 11 caroms to post her first double-double of the year. In addition, junior Sara Rokkanen drilled a contest-tying best three triples and finished with nine points off the bench.
As a team, Toledo shot 41.9 percent (26-of-62) from the field, including 31.6 percent (6-of-19) from beyond the arc, and 57.1 percent (4-of-7) from the charity stripe. UT, which is 6-3 away from home, also dished out a MAC-season high 19 assists and committed a season-low 10 turnovers. Â
For the season, the Rockets are fueled offensively by the quartet of McIntyre, junior Mariella Santucci, Boyd and Black, who are averaging 15.3, 10.5, 10.1 and 9.3 ppg, respectively. This group accounts for 66.9 percent (758-of-1,133) of the team's scoring.
Akron enter tomorrow's MAC cross-division match-up in the midst of a three-game losing streak, most recently suffering a 91-72 setback at Buffalo on Wednesday. Megan Sefcik paced four Zips with in double digits with 17 points, followed Haliegh Reinoehl, Gabrielle Brown-Mit and Shaunay Edmonds had 15, 13 and 12, respectively.
UA, which is 5-2 at home, features an offense with three players contributing at least 9.5 points led by Sefcik's 16.8 ppg and 1.7 spg.Â
Tomorrow's game will pit UT's stingy perimeter defense against UA's efficient outside shooting offense. Toledo is currently second in the league in scoring defense (59.5 ppg), third in three-point field-goals allowed (96, 5.6) and fourth in three-point field-goal percentage defense (.303, 96-of-317), while Akron is ninth in scoring offense (65.9 ppg) and fourth in both triples made (141, 8.3) and three-point field-goal percentage (.336, 141-of-420).
Toledo and Akron will meet for the only time during the regular season and 56th time overall.Â
The Rockets lead the all-time series, 42-13, and they have won the last three match-ups against their cross-division rival. UT also holds a 16-7 advantage vs. Akron in games played in the JAR.

In conjunction with next Saturday's game, Toledo will hold its 13th-annual 'Rockets for the Cure' day. The event will help benefit the Susan G. Komen for the Cure of Northwest Ohio, the Eleanor N. Dana Cancer Center and the University of Toledo Center for Health and Successful Living. The Rockets encourage everyone in attendance to wear pink in support of cancer research.
