Toledo Travels to West Division Foe Western Michigan on Wednesday

KALAMAZOO, Mich. - Toledo (9-5, 1-2 MAC) returns to the road on Wednesday, Jan. 16 for a showdown at Mid-American Conference West Division rival Western Michigan (7-7, 1-2 MAC). Game time is slated for 7:00 p.m. in University Arena and will be shown on ESPN+.
The Rockets have tallied a 1-0 record against division foes this year and are 72-38 (.655) over the last 10-plus seasons under head coach Tricia Cullop.
UT, which sits tied for second place in the MAC West Division standings, is coming off a 58-47 home setback vs. East Division frontrunner Kent State on Saturday before 4,071 fans in Savage Arena.
The Golden Flashes began the fourth period with a pivotal 13-0 run to take down the Rockets for a third-straight time.
Junior Sara Rokkanen paced Toledo with 12 points and a career-high eight rebounds, followed by senior Kaayla McIntyre with 11 points. Â
Toledo was limited to 31.0 percent (18-of-58) from the field, including 33.3 percent (6-of-18) from three-point range, to suffer back-to-back losses for the first time this season. A glaring difference in the MAC cross-division match-up came at the free throw line. KSU made 14-of-20 shots from the charity stripe, while Toledo was 5-of-7.Â
Megan Carter paced Kent St. with a game-high 22 points, including 13 in the pivotal fourth period, while Asiah Dingle added 13.
Toledo continues to be fueled offensively by McIntyre, junior Mariella Santucci and senior Mikaela Boyd, who are averaging 15.1 ppg, 10.1 ppg and 9.3 ppg, respectively. McIntyre is the only Rocket to score in double figures in every game this season and in 27-consecutive contests, dating back to last year.
UT, which is 4-3 in games away from home, will face a WMU squad coming off a hard-fought 64-61 road setback at Eastern Michigan on Saturday. Nina Farkic led three Broncos in double figures with 14 points and 10 caroms, followed closely by Jasmyn Walker and Kamrin Reed with 13 points each.Â
Western Michigan, which is 3-4 at home, showcases an offense with three starters averaging at least 10.0 points per game fueled by Deja Wimby's, Leighah-Amori Wool's and Walker's 12.8, 10.7 and 10.4 ppg, respectively.
UT and WMU will meet for the first of two match-ups during the regular season and 79th time overall. The Rockets will host the Broncos on Wednesday, Feb. 27 at 7:00 p.m. in Savage Arena.
