Meet Schedule Meet Program

Toledo, Ohio— The Toledo women's track and field team will send athletes to the Kent State National Qualifier and the SPIRE Division I Invitational this weekend for its penultimate indoor competitions before MAC Indoor Championships.

The Kent State National Qualifier begins Saturday, Feb. 10 at Noon with the field events, and running events are scheduled to begin at 1:00 p.m. The SPIRE DI Invitational begins Friday, Feb. 9 at 6:30 p.m. and picks back up on Saturday, Feb. 10 at 11:25 a.m.

UT competed at the Meyo Invitational in South Bend, Ind. last weekend and saw several great performances. Most notably, junior Katie Dewey broke the indoor school shot put record with a mark of 50-0.5, well above the previous record of 48-9.50. Not only did she break the school record, but five of her six throws were higher than the previous high-water mark for Toledo shot put. Dewey qualified for MAC Championships with her performance.

Other highlights included sophomore Athena Welsh winning the 5,000-meter run (16:35.28), a MAC Championship qualifying time and her first indoor 5K. Senior Janelle Noe turned in a personal-best effort in the 3,000-meter run with a time of 9:36.84, also qualifying for MAC Championships. Senior Petronela Simiuc joined her fellow Rockets in posting a championship-qualifying mark (2:11.12 in the 800-meter, a new personal best).

Toledo's distance runners have been excellent so far this season. Noe, Welsh, Simiuc, and junior Olivia Chinn have Toledo's milers ranked 10th in the country and they sit third, fourth, and fifth in the MAC, respectively. Welsh (9:32.52) is also third in the 3,000-meter among MAC competitors and the only underclassman in the top five. Noe (9:36.84) and Simiuc (9:41.37) are sixth and eight, respectively, and all three have MAC qualifying times. In the 5,000-meter Welsh (16:35.28, third in the MAC) and Jennifer Lichter (17:03.65, sixth) have led the way for UT this season.
