Rockets Heading South to Participate in Louisiana Classics

TOLEDO, Ohio — Toledo continues its spring season with a trip to the Bayou State for a return appearance in the Louisiana Classics on Monday-Tuesday, Feb. 26-27. The two-day event will be played at the par-72, 6,866-yard Oakbourne Country Club. The 54-hole tourney will consist of tee time starts beginning at 8:00 a.m. (CT) on Monday and 7:30 a.m. (CT) on Tuesday.

THE FIELD
• Fifteen schools are participating in the Louisiana Classics.
• Joining Toledo in the event will be four programs ranked in the Top 30 of Golfstat's rankings, headlined by No. 3 Texas A&M, No. 11 Illinois, No. 26 Louisville and No. 28 Kent State. Also participating are host Louisiana, McNeese State, Mississippi State, Rice, Sam Houston State, Southern Miss, ULM, UMKC and UTSA.

ROCKETS AT THE LOUISIANA CLASSICS
• Toledo is participating in the Louisiana Classics for the second-straight season. The Rockets tied for 11th place last year, notching a 47-over par 911 (296-306-309). Colin Joseph paced UT at eight-over par 224 (73-77-74) and tied for 24th place.
• UT's lineup this weekend will include sophomore Joe Bryce at #1, sophomore Thomas Thurloway at #2, senior Stephen Watts at #3, junior Duncan McNeill at #4 and senior Colin Joseph at #5.
• Bryce leads the Rockets with a 72.6 stroke average in eight rounds and is followed by McNeill (73.8/14 rds.), Watts (74.0/14 rds.), Thurloway (74.2/11 rds.) and Joseph (74.3/11 rds.).
• Kent State ran away with last year's team championship with a three-round score of 21-under par 843 (281-280-282) that was 19 strokes better than Texas A&M (287-288-287=862, -2). The Golden Flashes had four golfers among the Top 15 individuals to cruise to a double-digit margin of victory.
• LSU's Sam Burns secured medalist honors at 10-under par 206 (70-68-68), one stroke ahead of KSU's Ian Holt at nine-under par 207 (65-71-71).

LOOKING BACK AT THE EARL YESTINGSMEIER MATCH PLAY EVENT
• Toledo finished second at the Earl Yestingsmeier Match Play event on Feb. 12-13. The No. 3 seed Rockets tied No. 1 seed Miami in the championship match, but lost the tiebreaker. UT advanced to the championship by defeating DePaul 4-2 in the quarterfinals and winning the tiebreaker vs. Eastern Michigan in the semifinals.
• Thurloway and junior Spencer Shoemaker led UT during the event with perfect 3-0 records.
ON THE HORIZON
• UT will begin its spring break by competing in the Fort Lauderdale Intercollegiate hosted by Loyola (Md.) on Monday-Tuesday, March 5-6 in Fort Lauderdale, Fla.
