Toledo, Ohio— The Toledo women's track and field team heads to South Bend, Ind. this weekend for the Meyo Invitational.
The meet begins Friday, Feb. 2 at 4:00 p.m. and picks back up on Saturday, Feb. 3 at 9:45 a.m.
"I'm looking forward to this weekend," head coach Linh Nguyen said. "The Meyo Invite is always one that we circle on our calendar, because the level of competition is so high. The women have really been putting forth some great efforts the last couple weeks and I expect that to continue this weekend."
The Rockets split up last weekend with the throwers competing in the Findlay Classic and the rest of the squad in Geneva, Ohio for the SPIRE Midwest Open.
UT's distance runners were the highlight of the weekend. Senior Janelle Noe (4:42.80, first place), sophomore Athena Welsh (4:43.15, second place), and senior Petronela Simiuc (4:47.29, fifth place) all turned in outstanding performances in the mile run. Noe, Welsh, and Simiuc now hold the second, third, and fourth fastest indoor mile times in UT history, respectively. Noe comes into this weekend ranked 16th nationally in the mile, while Welsh is 18th. Toledo is one of just three teams in the NCAA with multiple runners with a top 20-fastest mile time.
Senior Danda da Silva also won an event last weekend, turning in a 400-meter dash time of 56.13. Her time was more than three seconds faster than her previous personal best. Sophomore Tori Thompson also PR'd with a 7.85 mark in the 60-meter dash, as did junior Katie Dewey in the shot put (48-9.0) in Findlay.
Mid-American Conference foes Bowling Green, Miami, Northern Illinois, and Western Michigan will be among the attendees this weekend.
