Allendale, Mich. - Two Rockets kicked off the indoor portion of the track and field season today at the Grand Valley State University Holiday Invitational. Junior Athena Welsh and senior Janelle Noe both competed in the 5K, where Welsh took third (16:24.28) and Noe took 23rd (17:39.68).
"Athena ran really well with an 11-second indoor personal record and a four second personal record overall," head coach Linh Nguyen said. "She has been pretty sick this week so I wasn't sure how it would go today, but she's super tough and ran a great race."
"Janelle had a tough day, but this was her first 5K ever and and first race in about six months," Nguyen added. "I think she'll be happy to get back to the middle distances in January. Both women will take a little break now and then get geared up for the indoor season. Overall, today was a good end to the fall semester."Â

The Rockets' indoor schedule jumps into full swing on Jan. 12 when UT competes in the Wolverine Invitational in Ann Arbor, Mich.
