Rockets to Compete in Fighting Irish Classic

TOLEDO, Ohio - The Toledo men's golf team returns to action 11 days removed from its last tournament when it travels to Notre Dame, Ind. to compete in the Fighting Irish Classic. The Rockets will be participating in the tournament for a second straight year and playing on the par-71, 7,020-yard Warren Golf Course on Sunday-Monday, Oct. 7-8. An 8:45 a.m. shotgun start will be utilized on Sunday with 8:30 a.m. tee times off No. 1 and No. 10 set for Monday.

Freshman David Amm is leading the Rockets with a 73.0 stroke average but will not be participating this weekend due to injury. Sophomore Grant Godfrey ranks second on the team with a 74.8 mark and will be joined in UT's lineup by junior Rasmus Broholt Lind (75.7), senior Spencer Shoemaker (75.9), senior Duncan McNeill (76.3) and sophomore Jack Boczar (77.2).
THE FIELD
The Rockets will be competing against a strong 15-team field featuring nine teams ranked in the top 70 of Golfweek's computer rankings. Joining UT in the field will be Illinois (33), Iowa State (35), North Carolina (43), Iowa (49), Michigan State (55), Michigan (64), host Notre Dame (65), NIU (67) and Georgia Southern (70), as well as Southern Illinois, Miami (Ohio), Wisconsin, South Alabama and Nebraska.

THE FIGHTING IRISH CLASSIC
Toledo will look to duplicate the success it had last year in the "Hoosier" state when it placed fifth in the Fighting Irish Classic. Former Rocket Colin Joseph paced UT by tying for 10th place with an even-par 210 (69-69-72). Senior Duncan McNeill was two strokes behind Joseph at two-over par 212 (70-69-73) and tied for 17th place.

ON THE HORIZON
Following the Fighting Irish Classic, Toledo will be off for nearly a month before traveling to Pebble Beach, Calif. for the Saint Mary's Invitational on Monday-Wednesday, Nov. 5-7.
