Rockets Heading South for Bettie Lou Evans Invitational

10/3/2018 11:26:00 AM

TOLEDO, Ohio — The University of Toledo women's golf team will return to action for the first time in nearly three weeks when it travels to Lexington, Ky. to compete in the Bettie Lou Evans Invitational. The Rockets will be participating in the tournament for a second straight year and playing on the University Club of Kentucky's par-72, 6,221-yard course on Friday-Sunday, Oct. 5-7.

"The team is very ready to tee it up again, and having seen this course last year certainly helps us with familiarity and knowing what to expect," first-year head coach Jenny Coluccio said. "We have talked a lot about our ability to adjust and adapt to any condition or situation. The course will play long so we will need to be confident in our strategic decisions."

Toledo has had the opportunity to work on a number of different parts of its game since opening its season on Sept. 15-16 with a 12th-place showing at Michigan State's Mary Fossum Invitational. Senior Pinyada Kuvanun tied for 14th place at two-over par 218 (73-71-74) to lead the Rockets.

"Our first event at MSU provided valuable feedback on the areas we needed to work on during our long break," Coluccio said. "Our focus has been on situations, thinking outside of the box and short game. We have done a variety of practices from working on our technique in short game to playing Inverness with only three clubs. The team has been challenged in a multitude of ways during these weeks at home. They have all responded well and are making great strides across the board."

This weekend's tournament will be first of four the Rockets will play over the next month or so.

"We do have quite a stretch in front of us with four events in the next five weeks," Coluccio said. "Energy management will be key to us to playing our best throughout the long stretch. The ladies are eager to test what they have been working on and excited for some great opportunities coming up!"
