Scouting the Opponent
Kent State: The Golden Flashes enter Friday's match with a record of 8-12 and a 1-5 mark in conference play. Despite holding winning records in home matches (4-2) and neutral site contests (4-2), Kent State is still searching for its first road victory of the year (0-8). Its lone conference win came in a five-set victory at Akron, but since then KSU is 0-3. Kathryn Ellison (2.63 kills/set) and Darby Connors (2.28 kills/set) are their two most productive offensive threats, while Erin Gardner (4.72 digs/set) paces the Golden Flashes defensively.

Ohio: The Bobcats were the preseason pick to win the MAC Tournament and finish first in the regular season, plus they had three players on the preseason All-MAC East team: Tia Jimerson, Vera Giacomazzi, and Lizzie Stephens. Ohio has stumbled as of late, however, dropping three of its last four matches, and its 3-3 conference record places it in the middle of the pack in the MAC. Since conference play began, OU ranks third in hitting percentage (.211) and second in blocks (2.33/set). Giacomazzi has been one of the better setters in the league, averaging 10.61 assists per set in MAC play.
