Toledo, Ohio— The Toledo women's track and field season rolls on this weekend, with athletes heading to the SPIRE Midwest Open and the Findlay Classic and Elite Throws Competition.
The SPIRE Midwest Open begins Friday at 5:00 p.m. and continues Saturday at 9:00 a.m. Competition in Findlay begins Saturday at 9:00 a.m. as well.
"We're splitting up this weekend with the throwers headed to Findlay for a very strong throws competition," head coach Linh Nguyen said. "The rest of the squad will compete at the SPIRE Institute as we look to continue to work on MAC qualifying performances. With just a month left until the championship, we're looking to get things ramped up starting this weekend."
The Rockets will look to continue their solid start to the season. Last weekend at the Tom Wright Classic, Michelle Hostettler won the mile run with a personal-best time of 5:04.73 and Karoline Steppin won the triple jump with a mark of 39-7.25. It was the first collegiate event victory for the freshmen duo.
On the throwing side, Katie Dewey (47-9.75, a new personal best) and Chloee Kleespies (40-9.75) both finished in the top five of the shot put last weekend. Both will be heading to Findlay to represent Toledo's throwers.
The SPIRE Midwest Open meet is hosted at the SPIRE Institute, one of the premier indoor facilities in the country. An official USOC Olympic Training site, SPIRE has hosted several Division I indoor track and field conference championships. This will be the first of two trips the Rockets will be making to this facility, with the SPIRE NCAA Division I Invitational on the docket in February.
