Rockets Take Fifth in ISU Country Financial Invitational

NORMAL, Ill. - The Toledo men's cross country team took fifth place as a team behind an eight place finish by sophomore Dismas Koech in the ISU Country Financial Invitational on Friday evening.
The Rockets scored 114 points (8-17-25-29-35) to defeating Illinois-Chicago, SIU Edwardsville and Western Illinois and finish six points behind Wisconsin for fourth.
Dismas Koech marked a time of 25:25.4 in the 8k event, under 25 second behind the race winner. Senior Alberto Chelimo placed inside the top 20 with an 18th-place finish in a time of 25:44.9.
Juniors Titus Koech and Josh Oeters were the next pair of Rockets to complete the course. Titus Koech's time of 25:54.1 was good for 27th place while Oeter's clock read 26:07.9 for 32nd place.
Senior Stalline Kurgat rounded out the scoring for UT with a 26:37.5 8k and a 38th-place finish.
Jacob Wistinghausen, Daniel Kemboi and Brian Stubelt just missed scoring for the Rockets as the trio came in 41st, 43rd and 44th, respectively.
Seventeen-time Division III National Champion North Central won the invitational with 24 points (2-4-5-6-7)
The cross country teams venture to Minneapolis in two weeks for the Roy Griak Invitational on Saturday, Sept. 23.
