TOLEDO, Ohio - The Toledo women's soccer team puts its unbeaten record on the line as it visits No. 23 Michigan for an 8:00 p.m. match on Sunday, Aug. 27 in Ann Arbor, Mich.
The Rockets (1-0-1) earned their first win of the season, a 2-0 triumph over Canisius, and a scoreless tie with Detroit Mercy during the opening weekend. This is the first time since 2004 that the Rockets have started the season with back-to-back shutouts and the result at Detroit was the first 0-0 draw to begin a campaign in program history.
Redshirt freshman Madison Perrin has played all 200 minutes in goal for the Rockets and accumulated six saves in the first two contests of her career. A strong starting back line of Sheridan Bufe, Chiara Paradiso, Regan Price and Rachelle Topolewski have helped the defense not allow a goal thus far in 2017.
Scoring goals for the Rockets was junior Hannah Scafaria and senior Sophie Pohl. Scafaria started the scoring with a tally in the 25th minute on a bouncing ball in the box. Pohl put the game on ice with a 48th-minute marker with the help of a great centering pass from Price.
Michigan (2-0-0) also enters the weekend without a loss on its resume. The Wolverines recorded a 2-0 win over Washington and a 4-0 victory against Idaho State during the first weekend. UM deploys goalkeepers by committee with three players that have been between the posts for at least one half of action. Sarah Jackson leads the trio with seven saves.
Offensively, Taylor Timko leads Michigan with three goals and an assist. Sarah Stratigakis notched a pair of goals while Brooke Cilley has produced four assists.
Toledo is 0-4-1 against Michigan in program history with the lone point coming from a 2-2 final in 2010. Third-year head coach TJ Buchholz mans the sidelines for Toledo opposite Greg Ryan, who is in his 10th year at Michigan.
The women's soccer team heads west next weekend for matches with UC Riverside on Sept. 1 and UC Irvine on Sept. 3.
