
Rockets to Host 32nd Annual Toledo Invitational

TOLEDO, Ohio - The Rockets return to the Glass City to host the 32nd Annual Toledo Invitational on Thursday, May 4 and Friday May 5 at the Toledo Outdoor Track & Field Facility. Throwing events and the 5,000-meter run will take place on Thursday with the remaining events on Friday. Friday's field events begin at 10:30 a.m. with running events starting at noon.
The Toledo Invitational will serve as the final tune up for the Rockets before next week's Mid-American Conference Championships.Â
UT has 11 athletes that have automatically qualified for the MAC Championships at season's end. Athena Welsh, Zita Molnar, Stephanie Barlow and Olivia Chinn have already qualified in the 3,000-meter steeplechase and make up four of the 11 qualified runners. Welsh currently sits in 34th (10:29.46) in the NCAA East Regional standings with Molnar in 50th (10:35.03).
The 1,500m and the 5,000m runs will each be represented with Rockets as Petronela Simiuc and Janelle Noe are in the 1,500m and Joan Jepkirui, along with Caroline Lambert, have locked in spots for the 5K. Simiuc will run in the Ole Miss Classic on Saturday in Oxford, Miss. looking for a NCAA Reginal qualifying time.
Katie Dewey, Ty'Shai Freeman and Madeline Pacella have punched their tickets to the conference championships in the discus, triple jump and high jump, respectively.
Thirteen teams will make their way to Toledo for the meet. Visiting teams include:
