Toledo Sends Five to Stanford Invitational

PALO ALTO, Calif. - The Toledo track and field team sent five distance runners to Palo Alto, Calif. to compete in the Stanford Invitational on Friday, March 31 and Saturday, April 1.
Freshman Athena Welsh led off the Rockets' program with a 20th-place finish in section four of the 5,000-meter run. Welsh broke the tape at 17:22.62 in her first 5,000m of the outdoor season.
Petronela Simiuc took to the track and won section six of the 1,500-meter run in a time of 4:27.44. The time puts the junior in fourth-place all time at Toledo in the outdoor event.
Junior Joan Jepkirui competed in a later section of the 5,000m, section 3, and finished in a time of 17:15.01. Jepkirui's time was good enough for 23rd place in the section.
The final race for the Rockets was section two of the 10,000-meter run. Freshman Caroline Lambert impressed the west coast with a 34:21.50 mark, which is an NCAA qualifying time. Her time is also the fourth-fastest time in UT outdoor history. The previous owner of the fourth-fastest time, sophomore Jennifer Lichter, competed in the event but did not finish.
The Rockets return home to take on Bowling Green in the BGSUÂ Dual meet on Friday, April 7.
