Toledo Wins Two Events in Oliver Nikoloff Open

CINCINNATI, Ohio - Part of the Toledo track and field team competed in the Oliver Nikoloff Open on Friday and Saturday on the campus of the University of Cincinnati.

The Rockets won titles in a pair of event wins and had multiple top five performances. Graduate student Dandadeua da Silva won the 400m finals in a meet-best time of 55.80 to lead the Rockets sprinters.

In the field events, sophomore Anna Bellman took home the win in the javelin with a throw of 36.66 meters, just short of her personal record.

Sophomore Katie Dewey had a big day in the throws events. Dewey put up a personal record in the shot put (14.54m) to finish second. She also took third in the discus with a heave of 45.19m. Bellman also finished in the top five, taking fourth with a throw of 44.24m.

Maddie Jarrett and Alexa Jarrett took fourth and fifth place, respectively in the pole vault. Both sisters cleared 3.50m in competition.

Deja Martin placed fifth (10.87m) in the triple jump and Julia Mendiola notched a fifth-place finish (4:41.17) in the 1500m, besting her personal record by 13 seconds.

These Rockets will rejoin their teammates for the BGSU Dual meet on Friday, April 7 in Toledo.
