Rockets' Jumps Squad Leads Team in Meyo Invitational

SOUTH BEND, Ind. - Madeline Pacella cleared a height of 1.71 meters in the high jump to finish second and Alexa Jarrett flew over 1.66 meters in the pole vault to finish ninth at the Meyo Invitational hosted by Notre Dame on Saturday.
Pacella missed on her opening attempt at 1.66 meters but achieved the height on the next jump. When the bar was raised, Pacella cleared it on the first attempt to net herself a second-place mark.
Jarrett also snuck inside the top 10 with her performance. Jarrett got over a height of 3.90 meters on her only attempt but missed on three attempts at 4.05 meters. Â
Petronela Simiuc ran the mile and qualified for the Mid-American Conference Championships with a 4:52.64. Her time was good enough for 26th place and is the sixth fastest time by a MAC runner this season.
Stephanie Barlow ran a personal-best in the 5000 meters and just missed an automatic qualifying time by less than six seconds. Barlow ran a 17:10.17 to finish 25th in the meet, while Nina Bendixen also ran a career-best 17:18.08 to place 30th.
The Rockets distance medley relay team of Olivia Chinn, Dandadeua da Silva, Maja Pacaric and Joan Jepkirui clocked in at 11:45.53, which gives them the second fastest time in the MAC this year.
Katie Dewey eclipsed the 14-meter mark in the shot put for the first time in her career with a throw of 14.08m. Dewey finished 15th in the event.
"I thought we had a pretty good meet overall," continued Nguyen. "I'm pleased with the weekend and getting some more MAC qualifiers."
Toledo will compete in its final meet before the MAC Championships as the Rockets invade the SPIRE Midwest Open on Friday, Feb. 10 and Saturday, Feb. 11.
