Toledo Sets 4x400 School Record in SPIRE DI Invitational

GENEVA, OH - The Toledo 4x400-meter relay team of Nautica Hill, Yana Khabina, Kristiana Collins and Dandadeua da Silva combined to run a school-record 3:48.02 in the SPIRE DI Invitational on Saturday.

Hill, Khabina, Collins and da Silva ran more than two seconds faster than the previous record of 3:50.79 set in 2010 by the quartet of Morgan, Jacoby, Kaverman and Woodrum. The time marks the sixth-fastest performance in the Mid-American conference this season.

"This was our last meet before the MAC Championship," said Toledo head coach Linh Nguyen. "I'm very pleased with how the team performed."

Joan Jepkirui and Caroline Lambert each ran personal records in the 5000-meter run. Jepkirui finished in 16:25.42 while Lambert clocked in at 16:46.34. Jepkirui placed fourth, has the fourth fastest time in the MAC, along with the fifth fastest time in the event at Toledo. Lambert placed just outside of the Top 10 in 11th place. Both runners qualified for the MAC Championships.

Athena Welsh also finished fourth in the 3000-meter run and holds the fourth fastest MAC performance in the 9:40.40. Welsh has now automatic qualifying times in the mile and the 3000m.

Madeline Pacella placed fourth in the high jump by clearing 1.73 meters.

"We have two weeks to train and sharpen up for the MAC Championships," concluded Nguyen.

Nguyen and the Rockets will go to Ypsilanti, MI for the MAC Championships on Friday, Feb. 24 and Saturday, Feb. 25.
