Toledo Plays at Detroit Mercy on Thursday in Non-Conference Finale

DETROIT, MICH. - Toledo (8-3) will wrap up its non-conference slate against Horizon League foe Detroit Mercy (0-10) on Thursday, Dec. 21 away from the friendly confines of Savage Arena. The opening tip is slated for 5:00 p.m. in Calihan Hall and the match-up will be carried live on ESPN3.
The Rockets, who will be playing away from home for the fifth time in their last six games, Â are 17-19 (.472) all-time in non-league finales since joining the Mid-American Conference in 1981-82. Head Coach Tricia Cullop is also 7-2 (.778) in non-conference finales while patrolling the UT sidelines.
Earlier this week, Toledo split a pair of neutral-site contests at the West Palm Invitational on the campus of Keiser University, claiming an 81-76 victory over Southern on Monday, preceded by a 70-56 setback against Western Kentucky on Sunday.
Junior Kaayla McIntyre (16.0 ppg), junior Mikaela Boyd (12.5 ppg), sophomore Sara Rokkanen (12.5 ppg) and senior Jay-Ann Bravo-Harriott (10.0 ppg) each averaged in double figures in the two contests.
Through the first 11 games this season, UT is fueled offensively by the quartet of McIntyre, Bravo-Harriott, Boyd and junior Olivia Cunningam, who are averaging 14.3, 11.2, 9.0 and 8.8 ppg, respectively.  Â
Detroit Mercy, which is coached by UT alum and former assistant coach Bernard Scott, will be looking for its first win this season. Most recently, the Titans dropped a tough 78-76 decision against MAC member Eastern Michigan on Sunday. The Eagles outscored UDM, 22-11, in the fourth quarter to pull out the two-point road victory. Anja Marinkovic and Lexey Tobel paced Detroit Mercy with 22 and 19 points, respectively.
The Titans, who will be playing their fifth MAC school this season, possess an offense with three players averaging at least 9.0 points per game led by Brianne Cohen's 17.0 ppg. Â
Toledo will square off against Detroit Mercy for the fifth time in the last six years and 28th time overall. UT holds an 18-9 advantage in the all-time series and has won five of the last six meetings, including a 72-66 home triumph on Dec. 21, 2016.Â
The Rockets also maintain a slim 7-5 edge in games played in "Motown," most recently securing a 55-40 road win on Dec. 18, 2007. Â
Following tomorrow's contest, the Rockets will open MAC play at Ohio (5-5) on Sunday, Dec. 31. Game time versus the Bobcats is scheduled for 1:00 p.m. in the Convocation Center.
UT has been pegged second in the MAC West Division, while Ohio has been picked to finish third in the East Division, according to a preseason vote of the league's 12 head coaches.
Toledo has dropped the last four match-ups against its cross-division rival but still holds a 44-24 advantage in the all-time series.
A season ago, the Bobcats swept the regular-season series, claiming a 64-55 road victory (Jan. 18) and a 61-55 home win (Feb. 4).
