Toledo Tangles with 2016 MAC Tourney Champion Buffalo at Home on Wednesday

TOLEDO, OH - Toledo (13-6, 4-4 MAC) will reach the midway point of the Mid-American Conference season on Wednesday, Feb. 1 when it hosts reigning MAC Tournament champion Buffalo (15-5, 5-4 MAC). Tip-off time is set for 7:00 p.m. in Savage Arena and will be streamed live on ESPN3.
UT will be looking to carry over momentum from a thrilling 74-72 home victory against reigning MAC West Division champion Central Michigan on Saturday before 4,309 fans.
Senior Janice Monakana led a season-tying best five Rockets in double figures with 18 points, six rebounds and a contest-best three steals versus the Chippewas, followed closely by sophomore Kaayla McIntyre with 15 points, seven boards and a contest-tying best two rejections.
Junior Jay-Ann Bravo-Harriott also returned to the lineup and tallied 13 points in the two-point triumph, while sophomore Halee Printz had a season-high 12 points and sophomore Mikaela Boyd contributed 11 points, a squad-best nine caroms and a career-tying best eight helpers.
As a team, Toledo shot 41.8 percent (28-of-67) from the field, including an impressive 40.0 percent (8-of-20) from three-point range, to snap a three-game losing skid.
UT was also outstanding on the glass and finished with 40-38 rebounding edge, including a season-tying best 21 offensive boards. The Midnight Blue & Gold took full advantage of the offensive caroms and translated them into 22 second-chance points. CMU came into the division match-up leading the MAC in rebounding margin (+6.7) in league games.
In addition, UT was solid taking care of the basketball and dished out a conference-season high 23 assists against only 14 turnovers.
Toledo continues to be fueled offensively by the quartet of Bravo-Harriott, Monakana, Boyd and McIntyre, who are averaging 11.9, 11.5, 10.5 and 9.6 ppg, respectively.
UT, which sports a 7-4 record at home, will take on a Buffalo squad which has won four of its last five games, including a 62-47 road victory at Western Michigan on Saturday. MAC Player of the Year candidate JoAnna Smith led UB with a game-high 27 points in the double-digit road win.
The Bulls, which are 6-3 away from home, features three players scoring at least 8.5 points per game and are paced by Smith's 16.4 ppg, 4.1 rpg, 1.2 apg and 1.6 spg.
UT and UB will meet for the second time this year and the 25th time overall. The Rockets claimed a 73-64 road victory over the Bulls on Jan. 11 in Alumni Arena.
Toledo leads the all-time series, 20-4, including a perfect 10-0 mark in games played at home with an average margin of victory of 13.5 ppg (72.5-59.0).
A season ago, Toledo claimed a 71-60 home victory (Feb. 10).
Following tomorrow's contest, the Rockets will travel to MAC East Division frontrunner Ohio (16-4, 7-2 MAC) on Saturday, Feb. 4. The opening tip versus the Bobcats is slated for 3:00 p.m. in the Convocation Center.
UT and Ohio will meet for the second time in two weeks and 68th time overall. The Bobcats secured a 64-55 road victory on Jan. 18 in Savage Arena.
