Rockets Knocked Out of MAC Championships with 4-2 Loss to Western Michigan

Oxford, OH – The Toledo women's tennis team saw its season come to an end on Friday afternoon with a 4-2 loss to Western Michigan in the first round of the 2016 Mid-American Conference Championships at Miami's Hepburn Varsity Tennis Courts.

The Rockets finish the season with a 9-13 overall record, as the Broncos defeated UT for a second time this season.

"I couldn't be more proud of the effort our team gave in singles today. We laid it all out on the court but just came up a bit short," said head coach Tracy Mauntler.

Western Michigan jumped ahead by securing the doubles point. The Broncos defeated junior Sidnay Huck and senior Lauren Thai, 6-1, at first doubles. WMU then defeated UT's freshmen pair of Claire Aleck and Rani Goodland, 6-0, at the No. 3 spot.

The Broncos extended their lead by claiming victories at No.2 and No. 3 singles.

Huck was the first Rocket to record an individual victory on the day. The sophomore downed Melina Lyubomirova at No. 1 singles in straight sets, 6-4, 6-2.

Sophomore Megan Miller cut the Broncos' lead with a victory of her own. Miller bested Katja Fevralev in a battle at the No. 4 spot, 6-3, 7-6 (15-13).

WMU clinched the match by securing a fourth win at No. 6 singles. Thai defeated Denise Azcui, 6-3, in the first set but dropped set two and three, 6-2.
