Toledo Places Ninth at Boilermaker Invitational

WEST LAFAYETTE, IN – Toledo moved up three spots in Sunday's final round to finish in ninth place at the Boilermaker Invitational. The two-day tourney was played at the Kampen Course (Par-72, 7,465 Yards).
The Rockets fired rounds of 294, 302 and 293 for a 54-hole score of 25-over par 889. Second ranked Illinois captured the 15-team field after recording rounds of 280, 277 and 290 for a tally of 17-under par 847, seven strokes ahead of host Purdue at 10-under par 854 (284-286-284).

Black recorded five birdies during the closing 18 holes and has now been UT's top finisher in five-straight events this spring. With today's effort, he recorded his fourth Top 10 finish of the season. A candidate for MAC Golfer of the Year, Black has shot par or better in five of the last eight rounds.
Sophomore Stephen Watts and sophomore Colin Joseph were the next closest Rockets at seven-over par 223 (73-77-73) and eight-over par 224 (75-76-73) to stand tied for 38th and tied for 45th place. Rounding out UT's lineup was freshman Spencer Shoemaker (76-76-78) at 14-over par 230 to finish tied for 65th spot and senior Thomas Shindler (80-84-76) at 24-over par 240 to place 82nd.
The Rockets also finished second among four Mid-American Conference schools, placing ahead of reigning league champion Miami (288-299-303=890, +26) and Northern Illinois (295-300-302=897, +33). UT trailed only fourth-place finisher Kent State (296-289-280=865, +1).
Illinois' Charlie Danielson earned medalist honors with a nine-under par 207 (70-65-72), edging out teammate Nick Hardy (68-72-70=210, -6) by three strokes.
The Rockets will now turn their attention to the MAC Championships at Highland Meadows Country Club in nearby Sylvania on Thursday-Saturday, April 28-30. Toledo registered a second-place finish a year ago and will look for its first league title since 2004.
