Toledo Drops Pair of One-Run Decisions to Buffalo

TOLEDO, OH – Toledo (5-22, 0-2 MAC) dropped both games against Buffalo (6-21, 2-0 MAC) in its MAC-opening doubleheader on Saturday at Scott Park. The Rockets, who were the visiting team in both contests, were defeated by the Bulls, 1-0, in the opener before falling 2-1 in game two.

Senior OF Jessica Lemieux, sophomore 1B Samantha Showalter and sophomore OF Ashley Rausch each went 2-for-5 in the two contests vs. the Bulls. Junior 2B Chandler Rice, junior DP Celeste Fidge, freshman 3B Megan Choate and freshman P Heather Webb each recorded a hit on the day as well with Lemieux and Rice both notching doubles.

Game 1
Senior Marla Gooding (5-10) took the loss for the Rockets after hurling her 10th complete game of the season. Gooding allowed one earned run, struck out two and issued just one walk.

Both UT and Buffalo were silenced offensively until the seventh inning. Buffalo captured three quick outs in UT's half of the inning and carried that momentum into its turn at the plate. Freshman Katie Weimer's two-out triple to left field narrowly scored junior Ashton Earnhardt to give the Bulls a 1-0 win.

Game 2
Freshman Heather Webb (0-7) was the hard-luck loser for the Rockets in the second game. She pitching six innings and allowed just one earned run.
The Rockets took a 1-0 lead in the second when Lemieux's RBI double to left-center plated Webb.
Buffalo rallied for the win with two runs the sixth. With the bases loaded, senior Kenzie Koch singled up the middle to allow two runners to cross the plate.

The Rockets and the Bulls will return to Scott Park tomorrow at noon for game three of their weekend series.
