TOLEDO, OH – The Toledo men's and women's cross country teams will split their rosters and compete in two meets this upcoming weekend. Both squads will be represented in the Bradley Classic in Peoria, IL on Friday, Oct. 14 as well as the adidas Pre-Nationals Invitational in Terre Haute, IN on Saturday, Oct. 15.
The men's and women's races at the Bradley Classic will start at 2:00 p.m. and 2:45 p.m., respectively, and will be run at Newman Golf Course in Peoria, IL. At the adidas Pre-Nationals, the women's race will start at 11:00 a.m. and the men run will run at 11:45 a.m. The races will be held at LaVerne Gibson Cross Country Course in Terre Haute, IN. The Pre-National meet will be live streamed on FloTrack.com.
The women's team is coming off of a strong showing two weeks ago, placing fifth at the Greater Louisville Classic. Freshman Athena Welsh paced the Rockets with a 27th-place finish, while junior Maja Pacaric ran a career-best time of 17:51.40 and finished third on the team and 45th overall.
The men's team also had a successful outing at Louisville with a 10th-place finish. The team continues to be led by junior Alberto Chelimo who ran a career-best 8k time of 25:01.78. Juniors Titus Koech and Stalline Kurgat have consistently joined Chelimo as the top runners for the Midnight Blue and Gold this fall and are focused on continuing their success as the team approaches the end of the regular season.
Both teams are determined on making their presence known this weekend at their respective meets. The adidas Pre-Nationals will be a huge test for both programs as they will be competing against multiple Top-15 ranked teams such as Oregon, Arkansas, Colorado, Stanford and Indiana. The Rockets have been dropping times and setting career marks at each meet and expect that to continue. They are training to be a force in the post-season and have the opportunity to make a statement on a national stage this weekend.
After this weekend's races, both teams will conclude the regular season in at the Eastern Michigan Fall Classic on Friday, Oct. 21 in Dexter, MI.
