Toledo Battles Kent State at Home on Wednesday in MAC Cross-Division Match-Up

TOLEDO, OH - Toledo (5-7, 0-1 MAC) will look to start a new winning streak when it hosts Kent State (3-8, 0-1 MAC) on Wednesday, Jan. 6 in a Mid-American Conference cross-division match-up. Tip-off is scheduled for 7:00 p.m. in Savage Arena and can be seen on ESPN3 or heard on 1230 AM (WCWA).
The Rockets are coming off a 75-69 loss at reigning MAC West Division champion Ball State on Saturday, snapping their five-game winning streak. The win streak started after a loss vs. Dayton, 83-57, on Dec. 2.Â
BSU outscored UT 47-28 in the second half to claim its fourth straight victory in the series for the first time in the history of the rivalry, which dates back to 1981.
Ball State shot 52.0 percent (12-of-23) from the field and knocked down 19-of-23 (82.6 percent) at the charity stripe in the final 20 minutes to overcome a 13-point halftime deficit.
The Cardinals' Nathalie Fontaine sparked the second-half surge, scoring 14 of her 21 points after the break.Â
In a tale of two halves, UT was stymied offensively in the final 20 minutes after an impressive opening stanza. The Midnight Blue & Gold was held to 25.0 percent (10-of-40) from the field in the second half after connecting on 55.2 percent (16-of-29) in the first.
Junior Janice Monakana paced the Rockets with 21 points, followed by sophomore Jay-Ann Bravo-Harriott with 14. Senior Ana Capotosto and senior Brenae Harris added nine points each.
Capotosto just missed a double-double with a team-high 10 rebounds and helped UT post a commanding 44-32 edge on the glass.
Toledo, which sports a 2-2 record at home this season, is fueled offensively by the quartet of Harris, Capotosto, Monakana and Bravo-Harriott, who are averaging 12.8, 12.2, 10.6 and 9.8 ppg, respectively.

UT will square off against a KSU squad which has lost its last four contests. Most recently, the Golden Flashes suffered an 81-61 road setback at Central Michigan on Saturday. Tyra James paced Kent State with 14 points off the bench against the Chippewas, followed closely by Larissa Lurken and Jordan Korinek with 11 and 10, respectively.
KSU, which is 0-4 away from home this season, features three players scoring at least 10.0 ppg and is paced by Korinek and Lurken at 15.5 and 14.7 ppg, respectively.
Toledo and Kent State will meet for the first of two match-ups during the 2016 MAC campaign and the 68th time overall. UT leads the all-time series, 39-28, winning the last six games by an average margin of 18.2 ppg (69.2-51.0).
A season ago, UT claimed a 67-49 home victory (Jan. 7).
Toledo also holds a 19-9 edge in contests played on its home court and has won the last four contests in the Glass City.Â
Following Wednesday's contest, the Rockets will host MAC West Division foe Western Michigan (8-5, 0-1 MAC) on Saturday, Jan. 9. The opening tip versus the Broncos is scheduled for 2:00 p.m. in Savage Arena and can be seen on ESPN3.
