Rockets Finish 2-1 Over First Weekend at Home

TOLEDO, OH – Toledo men's tennis split their matches on Sunday afternoon, falling to Green Bay 5-2, before defeating IUPUI 5-2. The Rockets improve to a record of 2-5 after completing their three-match homestand.
UT started the day battling the Green Bay Phoenix (4-2). Green Bay jumped ahead by gaining the doubles point. The Phoenix notched No. 1 and 3 doubles, forcing the No. 2 match to go unfinished.
The Rockets were only able to attain two singles victories. Junior Stjepan Sisko defeated Green Bay's Leo Islinger 6-1, 6-4 at the No. 1 spot. Sophomore Stephan Miller followed with a 6-3, 7-5 victory at No. 5.
After a short break, Toledo was back out on the courts to face IUPUI (2-6). UT won two of the three doubles matches to gain the doubles point.
Sisko paired up with freshman Vince Anzalone to dominate the No. 1 doubles spot. The Rocket duo defeated the Jaguars 6-2.
Miller and freshman Serjen Olmedo recorded a 7-5 victory at the No. 3 slot.
"Our last match finished a very productive weekend for us," head coach Al Wermer said. "We're learning how to handle adversity, fight together, and problem-solve through matches. We're improving every day and every match."
Sisko finished with a perfect 3-0 record on the weekend. He bested IUPUI's Jac Newis 6-2, 6-0 at No. 1 singles.
Freshman Luka Vitosevic made his first appearance over the weekend with a 6-2, 6-4 victory at the No. 2 spot.
Anzalone recorded a 6-4, 6-2 victory at No. 3, while Olmedo posted a 6-3, 6-3 score at No. 4.
The Rockets prepare for a stretch of home matches, beginning on Feb. 12 against Detroit. UT then welcomes Aquinas and Wayne State on Feb. 13.
