TOLEDO, OH — Senior Sathika Ruenreong opened her summer season with a bang by winning a Midwest Collegiate Amateur Series event at Michigan State's Forest Akers West on Friday, June 19.
"What a great start to the summer for Sathika!," Head Coach Nicole Hollingsworth said. "She's led our team her first three years as a Rocket, and I can't wait to see how she performs in her senior year."
A Kanchanaburi, Thailand native, Ruenreong carded a five-over par 77 in her opening round followed by a three-over 75 later in the day to overcome a two-shot deficit after the first 18 holes. Ruenreong finished one stroke ahead of Ohio junior Hailey Hrynewich (77-76=153) and two shots in front of Akron sophomore Pader Her (76-78=154).
Ruenreong took home Most Valuable Player honors for a third-straight season this past spring after finishing just shy of breaking her own school record (74.5) for season stroke average with a 74.7 mark. A first-team all-conference honoree for a third-straight year, Ruenreong tied the school record with two tournament titles at the Rocket Classic and the FGCU Eagle Invitational.
