Toledo, OH - The Toledo women's tennis team rebounded from its loss earlier this weekend to gain a valuable 4-3 home win over Ball State at Shadow Valley Tennis Club on Saturday, March 31. The win gives UT its first conference win of the season.
The Rockets (8-8, 1-2 MAC) again played with five players so they were able to pull off the win despite giving up points by default in No. 3 doubles and No. 6 singles.
Kelsey Anonsen and Lexy Pitt defeated Ball State's Wild/Rang duo 8-2 in No. 1 doubles, but BSU was able to win the second-doubles match to take the doubles point.
Toledo was able to win four of the five singles matches that were played. Pia Rygh defeated Sanders in No. 2 singles, 6-1, 6-4. Pitt won her third-singles match against Johnson, 7-5, 6-4, and Coffman topped Rang, 6-0, 6-2 in the No. 4 spot. Amanda Border beat Hebble, 6-4, 6-3 in No. 5 singles.
Coffman and Rygh started their matches out strong and never looked back. Their wins tied the competition at 2-2. Border's win in the five-spot gave the Rockets a 3-2 advantage, and Pitt's win clinched the match after being down 0-3 in the first set.
"Lexy had to adjust her game because Kylee Johnson was playing so well at the beginning of the match," said head coach Tracy Mauntler. "It shows maturity by a freshman to be able to do that."
"I'm so proud of the team today," added Mauntler. "After dropping the doubles point, we came out on a mission in the singles matches. This team is resilient!"
