DeKalb, IL - The Toledo women's tennis team was narrowly topped in its fourth conference matchup on Saturday, April 7. Playing with five players, UT just didn't have enough, losing 3-4 at Northern Illinois.
The Rockets (8-9, 1-3 MAC) picked up wins in No. 1 doubles, but lost the other two (No. 3 by default) to give up the doubles point. Kelsey Anonsen and Lexy Pitt defeated NIU's McLaughlin/Rogers duo by a count of 8-7.
Toledo also won singles matches Nos. 1, 3 and 4 to complete its scoring. Anonsen earned a convincing straight-set victory over McLaughlin in the No. 1 spot, winning 6-0, 6-0. Pia Rygh topped NIU's Youel in second-singles, 6-4, 6-4, while Chrissy Coffman beat Malkin, 6-4, 6-2 in No. 4 singles.
"We started flat in doubles today and that put us in a hole," said head coach Tracy Mauntler. "We battled in singles but, with only five players, we leave little room for error. We didn't have enough today."
The Rockets will play two road matches the weekend of April 13-14, at Buffalo on Friday and at Akron on Saturday.
