Toledo, OH - The Toledo women's tennis team ended the weekend with a split, losing its match against Illinois-Chicago on Saturday, Feb. 4 by a score of 5-2. UIC has qualified for the NCAA tournament the past 15 years straight.
The Rockets (1-2, 0-0 MAC) were only able to pick up wins in No. 1 and No. 2 singles. Senior Kelsey Anonsen got the win in the first-singles spot, defeating UIC's Kovaleva, 6-4, 6-2. Following suit in No. 2 singles, freshman Pia Rygh topped the Flames' Ysertsvadze in straight sets, winning 6-4, 6-3.
"We lost a very close match to a talented team," said head coach Tracy Mauntler. "We played well but they won the big points. I'm extremely proud of the improvement we made from last week."
Toledo travels to East Lansing, MI on Feb. 10 to take on Michigan State in its next dual-match.
