
Rockets Blank Chicago State, 7-0

Toledo, OH - The Toledo women's tennis team got in the wins column for the first time this dual-match season, blanking Chicago State 7-0 on Friday, Jan. 3, at Shadow Valley Tennis Club.
The Rockets (1-1, 0-0 MAC) swept the contest, winning each of the three doubles matches and the six singles matches.
Senior Kelsey Anonsen and freshman Lexy Pitt teamed up in the No. 1 doubles spot to defeat Chicago State's Rosalina/Rosalia, 8-1. Freshman Pia Rygh and sophomore Chrissy Coffman followed suit in No. 2 doubles, winning 8-3 over Emeralda/Grinval of CSU. In third-doubles, junior Alexandra Cristello and sophomore Amanda Border topped CSU's Mia/Mysta, 8-1.
In singles action, Anonsen led off UT's success, beating Chicago State's Rosalia, 6-2, 6-0. Coffman topped Rosalina in No. 2 singles, 6-4, 6-1. In third-singles, Rygh defeated CSU's Karyn, 6-2, 6-1. Pitt won 6-1, 6-2 in fourth-singles over Ruta, while Border didn't allow Mysta to score a point, winning 6-0, 6-0 in No. 5 singles. Cristello rounded out the group, winning 6-1, 6-0 over Mia in the No. 6 spot.
"The most important thing this early in the season is that we improve every time we step on the court," said head coach Tracy Mauntler. "We played well and continued to improve today. We had good focus and put a lot of pressure on Chicago State."
The Rockets are back in action on Saturday, Feb. 4, hosting Illinois-Chicago.
