Toledo, OH - The Toledo women's tennis team came up short in its dual-match debut on Friday, Jan. 27, losing to Xavier by a count of 4-3.
The Rockets (0-1, 0-0 MAC) put together three victories in the singles matches, but were only able to muster one win in doubles competition, giving Xavier the doubles point. UT's No. 1 doubles team of senior Kelsey Anonsen and freshman Lexy Pitt won its match against Alkire/Pleiman, 8-5.
Anonsen was also victorious in No. 1 singles, defeating Pleiman in three sets, 6-1, 5-7, 6-2. Pitt also won her match in the fourth-singles spot, topping XU's Alkire, 6-3, 3-6, 6-4. Sophomore Amanda Border rounded out the Rocket singles wins, beating the Musketeers' Oosterbaan 7-6, 5-7, 10-8 in No. 5 singles.
Today's loss was disappointing," said head coach Tracy Mauntler. "We didn't convert on some opportunities, which makes it tough to win. It's early and we will get there with some hard work and discipline."
The Rockets will be back in action the weekend of Feb. 3-4 as they host Chicago State and UIC
