
Coffman-Pitt Win Highlights UT's Performance at BG

Bowling Green, Ohio - The University of Toledo's women's tennis team opened the fall slate of its 2011 schedule this weekend, competing in the BGSU Invitational Sept. 16-17. The Rockets' performance was headlined by the doubles team of sophomore Chrissy Coffman and freshman Lexy Pitt winning the championship in their flight.
The UT duo defeated the teams of Ozakula/Costales from Evanville (8-5), Alkire/Westling from Xavier (8-3) and Johnson/Eccleston from Bowling Green (8-3) to win the Flight 2 Doubles championship.
Toledo's doubles team of junior Alexandra Cristello and senior Kelsey Anonsen placed fourth in Flight 1 Doubles.
In singles action, Pitt finished as runner-up in Flight 3, eventually being defeated by Eccleston of BGSU, 4-6, 6-3, 6-1. Anonsen and Coffman both recorded third-place finishes in Flight 1 and Flight 2, respectively.
"This was a good start for us," said Mauntler. "We had some solid performances and a lot to build on. I was impressed by Lexy's freshman debut! She's a competitor and will continue to be an impact player."
No official team scores were kept at this invitational.
Next on the schedule for the Rockets is a trip to Kalamazoo, MI the weekend of Sept. 30 - Oct. 2 to compete in the Western Michigan MAC Fall Invitational.
