Senior Kelsey Anonsen and sophomores Chrissy Coffman and Amanda Border all won their respective flight championships with perfect 3-0 records on the weekend. Anonsen also teamed with freshman Lexy Pitt and junior Silvia Carvajal over the course of the invitational to win the Flight 1 doubles championship with a 3-0 record.
In singles play, Anonsen defeated O'Sullivan (Duquesne) 6-0, 1-0 (retire); Karoub (Detroit) 6-2, 6-0; and Chiricosta (Bowling Green) 6-4, 6-4. Coffman defeated Steiner (Duquesne) 6-3, 5-7, 10-8; Cornwell (Detroit) 6-0, 6-2; and Hill (Bowling Green) 6-2, 6-3. Border won matches over Consonery (Duquesne) 6-3, 6-3; Halabi (Detroit) 6-3, 6-4; and Easdale (Bowling Green) 2-6, 6-4, 10-6.
On the doubles side, Toledo started off with an Anonsen/Pitt win over Straknova/Halabi of Detroit (8-3). Anonsen/Pitt then beat Eccleston/Johnson of Bowling Green (8-3), before the Rocket duo of Anonsen/Carvajal topped Li/Consonery of Duquesne (8-1).
The Rocket Invitational was played as a round robin type of format, as each team played a match against each of its three competitors. A team earned one point for winning two out of three matches against its opponent.
"I was really proud of how we played," said head coach Tracy Mauntler. "I felt like the team really stepped up with Lexy getting hurt. Kelsey and Chrissy came out extremely determined and confident. Those two continually give me 110 percent effort all the time. Hard work always pays off and, for those two, the results showed it today. Amanda also came through big for us against Bowling Green."
Toledo concludes its fall schedule next week as it travels to Columbus, OH to compete in the ITA Midwest Regionals at Ohio State University.
