Bowling Green, OH - In its first competition against NCAA opponents in the 2011-12 season, the Toledo swimming and diving team put on a near-perfect performance at Bowling Green's Tom Stubbs Relays Friday. The Rockets swam to eight first-place finishes out of ten events, setting five new meet records in the process, as they competed against Akron, Bowling Green and Youngstown State.
UT scored wins in the following relays:
- 200 Yard Medley (Maria Bargardi, Laura Lindsay, Beth Rogers, Carly Harter) - 1:45.94*
- 300 Yard Butterfly (McKenzie Bagan, Rogers, Bargardi) - 2:53.86
- 300 Yard Backstroke (Rachel Johnson, Bargardi, Rogers) - 2:54.54*
- 300 Yard Breaststroke (Lindsay, LesLee Winfield, Kirsten Smith) - 3:16.67*
- 800 Freestyle (Harter, Johnson, Rogers, Claire Leichty) - 7:41.54
- 400 Yard Medley (Bargardi, Lindsay, Rogers, Johnson) - 3:55.20*
- 1,500 Yard Freestyle Relay (Johnson, Louise Smyth, Leichty) - 15:10.21*
- 400 Yard IM (Harter, Rogers, Lindsay, Bargardi) - 4:02.98
The strong performance was an encouraging start for a team looking to win its second conference championship in three years, as a tremendous amount of toughness was put on display.
"The girls competed tough tonight," said head coach Liz Hinkleman. "A lot of them swam in upwards of eight events, with several back-to-back, and that is not an easy thing to do. They showed a lot of pride and represented the Rockets well."
Toledo travels to Ann Arbor, MI on Oct. 21 to compete in a dual meet against Michigan.
