
Rockets Place Seventh at MAC Championships

NASHPORT, OH - Toledo concluded its 2009-10 campaign on Sunday with a seventh-place finish at the 2010 Mid-American Conference Championship. The tournament was held at the par-72, 7,243-yard Longaberger Golf Club.
Senior Jerel Whiting paced the Rockets with an 11-over par 299 (75-73-71-80) to finish in a 13th-place tie. Freshman Josh Agin carded UT's best round of the day with a one-over 73 and tied for 19th place at 15-over par 303 (79-77-74-73). Rounding out Toledo's lineup were junior Jean-Hubert Trahan tied for 23rd place at 16-over par 304 (78-81-71-74), sophomore Michael Cermak tied for 37th place at 26-over par 314 (79-79-81-75) and junior Ben Boyer in 44th place at 32-over par 320 (79-81-81-75).
Led by the top three players in the individual standings, Kent State equaled a MAC men's golf record by winning its 18th MAC title with a 22-stroke victory. The Golden Flashes shot a two-over 290 in the final round to finish the tournament with a two-under 1150 (296-282-282-290) team score and claim their second straight championship. Juniors Brett Cairns and John Hahn shared individual honors at three-under 285 with sophomore Mackenzie Hughes one stroke back at two-under 286.
Kent State
has won 14 of the last 19 MAC Championships, and is now tied with Ohio for the
most men's golf MAC titles.
