AKRON, OH - The Toledo women's tennis team dropped a 5-2 decision to No. 63 Akron on Friday, snapping the team's three-match winning streak.
Ashley Frey (No. 3) and Silvia Carvajal (No. 6) won their singles matches, but those were the lone two points UT (8-4, 1-1 MAC) could muster.
"We played tough in singles today," Tracy Mauntler, head coach, said. "We had some chances, though. Against a team like Akron, you've got to capitalize when you get opportunities and we couldn't do that."
The Zips, who are the lone unbeaten Division I school (13-0, 2-0 MAC), swept the doubles matches to take the first point. Maha Guirguis dropped a tight contest at No. 2 singles, rallying to force a third-set tiebreaker, but ultimately fell 10-4 in that set.
Frey and Carvajal also both went to third sets after falling by identical 4-6 scores in set one, but both were able to complete their comebacks. Carvajal's victory was her third-straight in singles competition.
UT remains on the road for a 1 p.m. match against Buffalo on Saturday.
