Rockets Down Northern Illinois, 6-1

DeKalb, IL - Toledo's women's tennis team cruised to a 6-1 victory over Northern Illinois on Friday in the first MAC match of the spring. With the victory, the Rockets improved to 8-3 on the spring.
After taking the doubles point, UT was pushed to three sets in three seperate singles matches, but held on to win all three. Martina Wodzinski claimed a 2-6, 6-3, 6-3 victory at No. 1, and Maha Guirguis won 6-2, 2-6, 6-3 at No. 2. Silvia Carvajal also took a 6-4, 4-6, 6-2 decision at No. 6.
Ashley Frey had little difficulty at No. 3, scoring a 6-2, 6-0 victory, while Rahshell Washington had similar success at No. 5 singles with a 6-2, 6-2 win.
Toledo secured the doubles point on the strength of 8-5 wins from Guirguis and Wodzinski at No. 1 and Frey and Zoubareva at No. 2.
The victory was Toledo's fifth straight over Northern Illinois. The Rockets return to action next weekend with road matches at Akron (1 p.m. Friday, April 2) and Buffalo (1 p.m. Saturday, April 3).
