
Rockets Finish Third at 2009 MAC Championship

INDIANAPOLIS, IN ? Toledo registered the best score of the day on Saturday with a season-low round score of eight-under par 280 to finish in third place at the 2009 Mid-American Conference Championship. The Rockets posted a team score of 1167 in the three-day event held at Brickyard Crossing, 31 strokes behind tournament winner Kent State and 12 shots in back of second-place Eastern Michigan.
Sophomore Ben Boyer paced the Rockets in the tournament with a one-over par 289 (75-73-71-70) to finish alone in eighth place. Freshman Michael Cermak was right behind him in ninth place with a two-over par 290 (77-71-73-69), including a team-best three-under 69 in today's final round. Sophomore Jean-Hubert Trahan tied for 13th place at six-over par 294 (75-74-75-70), while junior Jerel Whiting tied for 19th place at nine-over par 297 (77-78-69-73). Rounding out the Rocket lineup was sophomore Nathan Wine shooting a one-under par 71 to tie for 35th place at 15-over par 303 (80-78-74-71).
KSU sophomore John Hahn led wire-to-wire and captured medalist honors with a nine-under par 279 (71-68-66-74) with a pair of teammates, sophomore Brett Cairns (76-68-68-71=283) and freshman Mackenzie Hughes (72-71-69-74=212), right behind him.
