Women's Tennis Drops Close Match at BG, 4-3

BOWLING GREEN, OH - The women's tennis team started off hot in singles with wins in half of the matches but the Bowling Green Falcons snagged three singles matches to go with their doubles point for the 4-3 win over the Rockets.

Ashley Frey won the top singles match for UT, defeating Kelsey Jakupcin 6-2, 6-3 and Maha Guirguis followed suit with a decisive 6-0, 6-2 win in No. 2 singles over Christine Chiricosta. Jenny Belsky added a win to the Rockets' total in No. 4 singles when she won a three-set match over Katia Babina, 6-2, 4-6, 6-3.

Two additional singles matches went into three sets as Nadia Zoubareva and Jessica Azoulay fought until the end for another UT point. Zoubareva began her No. 3 singles match with a 6-2 win in the first set but Samantha Kintzel won the following two sets and the point for the Falcons. In no. 5 singles, Azoulay won the first set 6-3 but Stefanie Menoff captured the final two sets and the win for the Falcons.

In doubles play, Guirguis and Belsky teamed up in the No. 2 spot and defeated BGSU's Kintzel and Babina, 8-6. The Falcons won the No. 1 and No. 3 doubles spots.

UT will continue its road stretch and trek to Kalamazoo, MI to face the Western Michigan Broncos on Saturday beginning at 1:00 p.m.
