Rockets Shut Out Ball State on Senior Day

Toledo, OH ? The Toledo women's tennis team dropped just one of the nine matches in a 7-0 shutout over Ball State on Saturday on "Senior Day," the final home match of the season. The Rockets are now 12-5 overall and 3-2 in the Mid-American Conference this season.

“I am happy with how we performed today and I thought we adjusted to the outdoor conditions well,” Head Coach Tracy Mauntler said. “We set the tone by winning the doubles point and we followed it up with six solid singles performances.”

UT won at No. 1 and 2 doubles but lost a tough-fought match at the No. 3 spot. The sophomore team of Martina Wodzinski and Maha Guirguis, along with the duo of freshman Ashley Frey and sophomore Nadia Zoubareva, downed their opponents 8-3, 8-2, respectively.

Toledo swept the singles competition with Wodzinski leading the way at the No. 1 spot in the lineup. She beat BSU's Sophie Quist 6-2, 6-1 for her 15^th singles win of the season.

After seeing her eight-match win streak come to an end yesterday against Miami, Zoubareva came out today and only allowed Georgina Thomson to win two games in a 6-1, 6-1 victory.

Going into a third-set tiebreaker was junior Jenny Belsky. She won the first set over BSU's Emma Retter, 6-4. Retter came back and won the second set, 7-5, to force a 10-point tiebreaker. Belsky won 10-6 for the Rocket point.

Toledo will travel to DeKalb, IL to take on Northern Illinois (3-9, 1-3 MAC) on April 12 with the first serve at 1:00 p.m.
