Rockets Fall to Bulls, 5-2

Buffalo, NY- In a match that lasted more than five and a half hours, the Toledo women's tennis team lost a closely fought battle, 5-2, to Buffalo on Friday, April 18 at the Ellicott Tennis Courts. With the loss, the Rockets drop to 13-6 overall and 4-3 in the Mid-American Conference.

After winning the doubles point, the Rockets could only manage one win at singles, by sophomore Jessica Azoulay at No. 6 singles. But four of the five singles losses were in three sets.

Sophomores Martina Wodzinski and Maha Guirguis won at the No. 1 doubles spot for their 20^th win of the season. They defeated Buffalo's Denisa Harijanto and Diana Popescu 9-7. Wodzinski and Guirguis fought off two match points for Buffalo when they were down, 6-7, and came back to win next three games to clinch the doubles point.

Also winning at doubles was freshman Ashley Frey and sophomore Nadia Zoubareva. They beat UB's Diana Toia and Smaranda Stan, 8-4.

Winning the lone singles match, after dropping the first set, 3-6, was Azoulay for her 20^th win of the season. She defeated UB's Tina Jacob 6-0, 6-1.

"This was a great college tennis match. Unfortunately we ended up on the losing side," said UT head coach Tracey Mauntler. "I'm proud of the battle and the way the girls fought today, but I think we just ran out of gas at the end."

The Rockets will travel to Akron to take on the Zips in their last regular-season match on Saturday, April 19. First serve is set for 1:00 p.m.
