Women's Tennis Defeated by Xavier

Toledo, OH - The University of Toledo women's tennis team was defeated by Xavier, 5-2, on Sunday Feb. 3 at Shadow Valley Tennis Club in Toledo. This was the Rockets first loss of the season moving to 3-1 overall.

“This was a tough loss but we will learn from it and it will make us better,” Head Coach Tracy Mauntler said. “We have a week of practice to prepare and get healthy for Illinois-Chicago.”

Toledo started the match off with a win in doubles but could not win another for the first point. Freshman Ashley Frey and sophomore Maha Guirguis defeated Xavier's Cara Courtney and Jeanette Feider, 8-1. Frey and Guirguis moved their record to 3-0 when playing in doubles together.

The Midnight Blue and Gold took two singles matches from the Musketeers but were not tough enough for any more. Frey won her match at No. 2 against Aylin Seyalioglu, 6-0, 6-2, and junior Jenny Belsky beat Tifanie Treece, 6-4, 6-2.

The Rockets next match will be against UIC at Synergy Tennis Club in Toledo on Feb. 10. First serve is set for 10:00 a.m.
