TOLEDO, OH - The UT swimming and diving team began its Mid-American Conference season with a 168-125 victory over the Ball State Cardinals on Friday Oct. 31 at the UT Rec Center.
Laura Heckroth led the Rockets with three first-place finishes in the meet, winning each race she competed in. In the 1000 freestyle, Heckroth dominated the field and touched the wall more than 24 seconds before the second-place swimmer (10:24.14). She also took first place in the 200 butterfly (2:11.75) and the 100 freestyle (53.06). "It was really a good win for us," said Head Coach Lars Jorgensen. "Laura Heckroth and Caitlin Cormack were outstanding for us today. Laura didn't lose an event she was in and Caitlin really showed her versatility."
"I was also very pleased with the contributions from our newcomers as well with four swimmers getting their first wins as Rockets," Jorgensen said.
Laura Lindsay, Jacque Fate, Kelsey Atchinson and Alison Zsigray were the swimmers that had their first Midnight Blue and Gold first-place finishes. Lindsay won the 100 breaststroke (1:06.04) while Zsigray picked up her first collegiate victory in the 200 backstroke (2:09.87).
