Women's Tennis Overpowers Eastern Michigan, 4-2

Toledo, Ohio - Toledo women's tennis won its first match of the Mid-American Conference tournament this afternoon defeating Eastern Michigan, 4-2. Last season, EMU knocked Toledo out of the tournament.
In doubles, the Rockets captured the point winning at No. 1 and No. 2. Myriam Cueva and Nadia Zoubareva came back from a 5-2 deficit to win the match 8-5 at No. 1. Martina Wodzinski and Maha Guirguis dominated their match winning 8-2 at No. 2.
"The doubles point was huge in this match today," said Head Coach Tracy Mauntler. "I'm so proud of the way Nadia and Myriam came back after being down."
In singles play, MAC Newcomer of the Year, Martina Wodzinski dominated her opponent winning 6-1, 6-2. At No. 6, Jessica Azoulay played a tough match taking her opponent to three sets. She won 3-6, 6-2, 6-3. Maha Guirguis' victory at No. 3 clinched the match for the Rockets when she took her opposition to three sets, defeating her 6-4, 4-6, 6-4. After losing her first set 4-6, Jenny Belsky came back to win her second set 6-3 and was ahead 5-1 in the third set when her match was abandon.
"We battled a lot in singles today too," said Mauntler. "I'm extremely proud of our team today."
The Rockets will take on Buffalo tomorrow at 2 PM. Toledo will look for revenge on the Bulls from their match earlier this season when they lost 4-3.
