Toledo Distributes Awards at Postseason Banquet

TOLEDO, OH - The University of Toledo women's basketball team held its annual postseason banquet Wednesday night at Stone Oak Country Club. Following is a list of the award winners:
Senior Danielle Bishop (Laingsburg, MI - Laingsburg Christian) received the "Most Outstanding Player Award." An honorable-mention All-MAC selection, Bishop averaged a team-high 12.6 points, 2.4 assists and 1.3 steals in 31.4 minutes per game. She tied for seventh in the league in three-point field-goals made (1.77), 10th in three-point field-goal percentage (36.1%), 11th in free-throw percentage (75.8%) and 16th in scoring. The four-year starter led the Rockets in scoring 15 times, assists nine times, steals seven times, blocked shots five times and rebounding on three occasions. She finishes her career third in UT annals in career three-point field-goal attempts (548), tied for third in three-point field-goals made (182), sixth in minutes played (3,499), seventh in free-throws made (316) and steals (177), eighth in field-goal attempts (1,234), ninth in scoring (1,462 pts.) and 10th in assists (294), free-throws attempted (423) and three-point field-goal percentage (33.2%).
Senior Savannah Werner (Angola, IN - Angola) earned the "Rocket Pride Award," given to the individual who exemplifies the three qualities that make up a Toledo women's basketball player: Plays Hard, Plays Smart and Plays Together. Werner averaged 12.0 points, 4.9 caroms, 1.0 assists, 0.5 blocks and 0.9 steals in 25.7 minutes per game. She ranked 11th in the MAC in field-goal percentage (46.1%), 15th in free-throw percentage (70.2%) and 20th in scoring. She scored in double figures 16 times in her last season wearing the Midnight Blue and Gold and led the team in blocked shots nine times, scoring and steals five times, rebounding four times and assists once.
Sophomore Diana Reindl (Mansfield, OH - St. Peter's) was tabbed as the team's "Coaches Award," given for outstanding leadership, team spirit and inspiration. Reindl started 27 of 30 games this past season and tallied 11.0 points, 6.8 caroms, 1.1 assists, 0.8 blocks and 1.0 steals in 27.0 minutes. She finished fourth in the MAC in field-goal percentage (53.3%), tied for ninth in double-doubles (6), 10th in blocked shots (0.80 bpg), 12th in overall rebounding and defensive rebounding (4.47 rpg) and 30th in scoring. The 2005-06 MAC All-Freshman Team selection, scored in double figures 18 times and led the Rockets in blocked shots 16 times, rebounding 14 times, scoring eight times and steals on six occasions. She also averaged 12.0 points, 11.0 rebounds and 1.5 blocks per game in MAC Tournament.
Freshman Allie Clifton (Van Wert, OH - Van Wert) received the Rockets' "Most Improved Player Award." Clifton, who sat out the first six games due to injury, started the final 17 contests and averaged 4.6 points, 3.7 rebounds, 1.2 assists and 0.8 steals in 18.8 minutes. During the MAC season, her averages improved to 5.7 ppg, 4.5 rpg, 1.4 apg and 1.1 spg. She scored in double figures six times, including four of the last six contests, and led the Rockets in steals and rebounding four times and assists on two occasions.
Junior Tamesha Scotton (Fort Wayne, IN - Carroll) earned the "Sixth Man Award" presented by the Lady Rockets Fan Club. Scotton appeared in all 30 games, making four starts, and averaged 5.6 points, 3.5 caroms, 0.4 assists and 0.4 steals in 17.4 minutes. She scored in double figures five times in her first season at UT and led the team in rebounding five times, scoring three times and blocked shots once.
Junior Kristi Zeller (Stow, OH - Stow) was honored with the "Top Scholar Athlete Award." Zeller, a pre-social work major with a team-best 3.906 GPA, appeared in 30 games off the bench, averaging 3.3 points, 0.9 caroms, 1.6 assists and 0.4 steals in 15.6 minutes per game. The 2007 Academic All-Mid-American Conference Team honoree finished second on the team with 29 three-point field goals and made at least two triples in a game seven times this season. The Stow, OH native scored in double figures twice this season and led the Rockets in assists four times, steals twice and scoring once.
