TOLEDO, OH - Junior guard Tyrone Kent has been named the Sporting News' Player of the Week following his career-best performance in the Rockets' 57-53 season-opening victory over Missouri State.
Kent tallied a career-high 27 points, including 21 in the first half. He nearly outscored the Bears in the first half all by himself as UT held a 37-23 halftime advantage.
The following is what the Sporting News' Mike DeCourcy wrote about Kent's performance:
"After averaging just 5.7 points as a sophomore, Kent registered nearly half the Rockets' points in a tough, 57-53 victory over Missouri State. Kent scored a career-best 27 points on 11-of-21 shooting and struggled only from long range, where he missed all but one of his five attempts. His bio on the official Toledo website describes him as "probably the Rockets' most talented player." He's a Chicago product who played at Crane Tech."
Toledo will host 2007 NCAA Sweet 16 participant Vanderbilt tonight in Savage Hall at 7:00 p.m.
