Notes
Head Coach Stan Joplin
"The difference in the game was probably our defense and the turnovers we forced. We didn't play very well in the first five minutes of each and that's when Buffalo made its runs. We were also able to take care of the basketball and that was important. Our plan going into the game was to try to control (Eric) Moore and (Yassin) Idbihi and we did a pretty good job of that. We knew they wanted to pound the ball inside and try to beat us up on the boards and play physical defense."
(on playing pressure defense)
"We wanted to make them play a little faster and get them out of their comfort zone. The only problem we had was getting into the double bonus with 10 minutes to go in the second half. We were reaching too much and not playing smart defense."
(on increasing the lead in the second half)
"It was good to see us extend our lead in the second half but it took awhile to get it to double digits. It was nice to put away a team on the road and you don't an opportunity to do that very often. It's very tough to win on the road in this conference and anytime you do you're very fortunate."
Senior forward Florentino Valencia
(on helping out defensively the whole length of court)
"In knew Yassin (Idbihi) was going to take the ball out so I just wanted to help the guards out and make them work and use more of the shot clock. We tried to play aggressive defense. We can't play average. We need to play hard and smart."
(on getting another conference road win)
"We have to take these wins in stride and act like we've been there. We need to keep working hard in practice and just keep trying to get wins. We're taking one game at a time and now that we're past Buffalo we have to get ready for Miami."
