Toledo Finishes in Fifth Place at Boilermaker Invitational

WEST LAFAYETTE, IN - Toledo moved up two spots in the standings today to register a fifth-place finish out of 12 teams at this weekend's Boilermaker Invitational. The invitational is being held at the 7,083-yard, par-72 Kampen Course and was played in very cool conditions in the morning before temperatures increased in the afternoon. The Kampen Course is a Pete Dye design and will host the 2008 NCAA Men's Golf Championships.
The Rockets posted the top team score today with a four-over par 292 today to finish at 908 for the tournament and were led by sophomore Ciaran McAleavey's even-par 72. Senior Richard Kilpatrick and junior Tyler Riley both carded one-over par 73's with sophomore Justin Hull shooting a two-over par 74.
Riley led Toledo in the tournament by tying for fifth place with a five-over par 221 (73-75-73), while McAleavey finished alone in 21st place with a 12-over par 228 (82-74-72). Kilpatrick tied for 25th place at 230 (82-75-73), while Hull tied for 33rd place at 232 (78-80-74). Senior Martin McTernan finished in 60th place at 243 (79-81-83) in his first event of the season.
Indiana captured the team title with an 18-over par score of 882 and finished 14 strokes ahead of the host Boilermakers. Notre Dame finished in third place (900), while Louisville was fourth (905). The Hoosiers' Jorge Campillo took home top individual honors after carding a final-round 68. He totaled 212 over the three rounds.
The Rockets return to action on Saturday and Sunday, April 15-16 with a trip to Columbus, OH to compete in Ohio State's Robert Kepler Intercollegiate.
