Toledo, OH - Myriam Cueva and Eunice Paravicini improved to 7-0 at first doubles with an 8-4 win, but Toledo could not pull out any other matches in a 7-0 loss to Western Michigan on Saturday afternoon at the UT Varsity Courts. The Broncos clinch the Mid-American Conference Championship with the win and improve to 7-0 in the conference. The Rockets fall to 13-6 overall, 4-3 in the MAC.
In a battle of undefeated doubles teams, Cueva and Paravicini handed Malena Remynse and Carrie Jeanmaire their first loss, 8-4
The Rockets gave the Broncos all they could handle in several singles matches, as the overall match time was around four hours. For the second consecutive day, Jenny Belsky was involved in the longest, most competitive match. The Freshman took the first set 7-5 from undefeated Priyanka Parekh, before falling 6-4 in the second and 7-6 (12-10) in a marathon third set.
Myriam Cueva gave a tremendous effort against Reedhina Parekh at second singles, but fell 6-3, 6-4.
"Overall we gave a good effort and made it tougher for them than they're used to," Head Coach Tracy Honko said. "The match was four hours which was longer than they were expecting. Our first doubles team picked up a huge victory."
The Rockets return to action next Sunday at 1 p.m. against Eastern Michigan at the UT Varsity Courts.
